We’ve been together 18 months through air raids, power cuts, and her moving cities twice. It’s not romantic in any Hollywood sense. It’s hard. But I’ve seen her character under real pressure, which tells you more about a person than years of comfortable dating ever would.

My Ukrainian girlfriend didn’t do the “everything is fine” thing. If something bothered her, she told me straight up. Felt harsh at first, but honestly it’s refreshing compared to passive aggression.
