I’m not going to dress this up. After my divorce I tried American dating for two years and felt completely invisible. Then I went to Colombia for a conference and had three genuine conversations with women in one week. Not because I was some prize — because I was present, respectful, and interested. That’s apparently enough there.

Long distance and cultural gaps are a trade off though. You gain some things, but you also deal with visas, language barriers and distance, which not everyone is built for.
