I’ll say what everyone’s thinking: a lot of guys go abroad because they struck out at home and want to try a different market. That’s fine, but go in honest with yourself about that. The men who do best abroad aren’t running from something — they’re genuinely curious about another culture. Women can smell the desperation a mile away in any language.

I ran into the classic bar girl situation in the Caribbean. If you meet her at a bar that caters to tourists and she wants you to buy drinks for all her friends, that’s not love, that’s her job.
